Oral Health Care for Aged Care & Retirement Living Communities
Access Oral Care provides convenient onsite oral health care services for residents of aged care facilities and retirement living communities across Adelaide and surrounding regions.
By bringing professional oral health care directly to residents, we make it easier to maintain oral health in a familiar and convenient environment without the need to travel to a dental clinic.
Maintaining good oral health is essential to overall health and wellbeing, yet it remains a significant challenge within aged care settings. Poor oral health can contribute to pain, infection, nutrition and hydration issues and broader health complications such as pneumonia, cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline.
Recent research from the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) highlights that oral health in aged care remains significantly underdressed, with many residents experiencing untreated dental disease and limited access to appropriate services. It reported that one in five aged care residents experience major oral health issues, with minimal access to dental services. It also stated that thousands were admitted to hospital due to oral health complications, where half of those cases were potentially preventable (Caughey et al., 2025).
The key barriers to oral health care in aged care include:
Limited access to dental professionals within facilities
Transport and mobility challenges for residents
Workforce constraints and competing care priorities
Reactive (rather than preventative) care models
These issues reinforce the importance of accessible, on site models of care.
Our mobile oral health care service directly addresses these barriers by delivering comprehensive, onsite dental care - ensuring residents receive timely, high quality treatment in the comfort and familiarity of their care environment.
